For the past four years, our administration has introduced legislation that will finally end partisan gerrymandering by removing the politics and politicians from the redistricting process and instead establish an independent, nonpartisan commission to draw district lines.
Marylanders deserve and expect fairness, balance, and bipartisanship in the electoral process. An overwhelming majority of Marylanders, regardless of party, support our nonpartisan redistricting plan.
Every single year, the General Assembly has ignored the will of the people and hidden this critical reform legislation in a drawer. This is simply unacceptable. Marylanders should be choosing their elected representatives, not the other way around
