While Vetoing Egregiously Gerrymandered Maps, Governor Hogan Calls on Biden DOJ to Add Maryland to Texas Civil Rights Suit

Governor Hogan continued his years-long fight to end gerrymandering in Maryland, vetoing congressional maps that make the nation’s worst gerrymandered maps even worse.

Governor Hogan also called on the Biden Department of Justice to add Maryland to their lawsuit against Texas alleging “discriminatory redistricting.” As Rep. Kweisi Mfume, who represents parts of Baltimore City in Congress has noted, Baltimore is being “chopped at” in these congressional maps, diluting minority representation. Even though the map passed by the Maryland legislature is even more discriminatory against minority voters than the Texas map, the Biden administration has yet to comment.
